“Better Left Unsaid” by Nathan J. Thomas

Original artwork and poetry by Nathan J. Thomas

Some things are better left unsaid;
Like the thoughts of you in my head.
Girl, I know you got a man,
But you gotta’ understand,
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Any time our two eyes meet,
Without refrain, this heart skips a beat.
Darlin’, I know it’s not okay,
But please don’t look away.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Resist the urge, try not to speak;
Temptation burns; no semblance of relief.
But the passion it flows,
As our flesh becomes weak.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Again she savaged me with her smile;
It sucks me in, there can be no denial.
A vulgar intent?
Or an innocent guile?
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Her heavenly body, delightful and taut,
Renders minds absent of thought.
I opened my mouth,
But the words I forgot.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Prized is the nectar scavenged by the fleet;
Pale in comparison; a magnitude less sweet.
Her demeanor is warm,
And her style is chic.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Subtle gestures of elegance and grace;
Fluid in motion, relevant to time and space;
Rhythmic in nature;
This supple body awaits.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Such beauty untamed, she glides with great ease;
Soaring high up above or the floor beneath.
No matter which way,
I’m paralyzed in disbelief.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

On the journey within, enlightenment I seek;
Mind focused and zen; perceptions succinct.
Until reveries of you,
And sentiments discreet.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

The voice of an angel, softly she speaks;
Or do I hear siren calls from the deep?
Such soothing songs
Either can sing.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Solemn words of encouragement she brings;
This guardian angel, minus her wings.
When my heart’s on the floor,
And it’s split at the seams,
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Radiance luminates from her face;
The aura fills voids dark shadows once embraced.
Enchantingly vibrant,
But an affection misplaced.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

On another plain of existence, two spirits collide;
As if destined by fate, a path the universe provides.
Fortuitous luck,
Or subconsciously derived?
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Her selfless acts of virtue and faith,
Help set this moral compass back to straight.
Except I’m miles from the shore,
And the course delineates.
You’re making it hard to breathe.

Delicate is the flower, but forbidden the fruit;
Love bears an unbreakable bond; I dare not dispute.
If silence is golden,
Should these words remain mute?
You’re making it hard to breathe.

As I admire you from afar,
I’ll settle for things just the way that they are.
For your happiness is key dear friend,
And you’re held in the highest of regard.
You’re making it hard to breathe.
